Here Joe describes two completely different modes of mind. One is our normal bottom up, simple to complex accumulation of knowledge and experience. The other is Insight where a new possibility, in this case Joe uses the revaluation of the laser, pops into a brain that has been prepared to experience and find meaning is the insight.

I’d like to move from the Savant directly to something like Gordon Gould. I’m using this as my new example. In 1957 he was awarded the Nobel for his discovery of this, discovery of the laser. And it wasn’t really the discovery of the laser, it was the revelation of laser. It happened in one split second on the weekend when he was loafing off of work and doing nothing in effect and it broke into his mind. In a split second he saw the whole thing and he was electrified. He was stunned. And madly wrote for the rest of the weekend, trying to put down on paper, the enormous huge volume and all the enormous implications of this that had happened.

Now what had happened was something that does not exist in nature, that is not out there in the real world, but simply a possibility of a new form of actuality, a new form of physical reality. And so reflecting on this he realized that this enormous burst into his brain which matches two or three episodes in Einstein’s life. And I can give you twenty-five or more similar things that have happened in both religious and scientific circles. But he realized that it could only have been because he had spent twenty years involved deeply in physics and optics, on top of many, many years of training in school college, universities and so on, in physics and optics.  All that had fed into the hopper and he wasn’t aware of the end result. He was not looking for that in effect. It was simply what suddenly was revealed. Of course he had been moving in those areas.  He was targeting, but what was discovered was vastly more than he could have ever imagined in effect.

So you’ll find that here is what intellect, which is another form of intelligence and other intelligences, and the mixture of intelligences which we’re capable of doing which a Savant is not. Here you have the intelligences of language, symbolic thinking, metaphoric thinking, mathematical thinking, the thinking involved in chemistry, physics, and so on and so forth. A whole raft of intelligences that this individual, Gordon Gould, was having to use in order to dynamically enter in. So you don’t have one field there, you’ve got a multi-faceted rich field of fields of activity going on, and something new is created that never existed that we know of in the universe. 

So that’s really getting into, it’s kind of a Savant thing, it breaks through the mind, unbeknownst to us and we say where could this conceivably have come from? Well of course it came into soil well prepared. Had it broken into the Savant’s mind he could have done nothing with it you see. And in fact it could not break into the Savant’s mind because you don’t have a sufficient number of fields. But there’s something on the Savant category going on there.

The general academic thought, in fact the scientific opinions about the limitations, you know, that here are just these electric chemical processes in the brain and it’s exchanging information and so forth and so on, and bringing in signals from the external world and trying to process them and so on. Now, none of those any longer hold. Those kinds of theories which were just ideas no longer hold. The evidence is overwhelming. And if you go one step further into the fields of intelligence which the brain is capable of tapping into if it’s given the proper nurturing environment and model stimulus. Someone, the child, a person’s environment, must have developed a particular intelligence in order to activate that and guide the person into developing that kind of intelligence. And the intelligence self-actualizes and becomes independent, or autonomous, and you don’t need your model anymore. You’ve become the nurturing model-environment in effect. That’s the whole scheme of this. 

To understand then, that you’re really drawing on that which is larger than or greater than anything available to an instrument, because it is, you can’t tell where the mathematical field is the Savant draws on because it isn’t anymore. It doesn’t exist, which is to be set apart as a particle, particle energy, physical material stuff and so on. And all the sudden you’ve begun to realize that the brain and our mind, of course which is all kind of in part the same thing. It’s both in our physical temporal-space reality and shading off into one’s we don’t know about. And if that’s the case then obviously the potentials that we’re dealing with are not limited by anything we know of at the present.
