I have to have a couple of precedence for it and I’d met a shrink or psychologist, medical doctor who with several years in the Manager Clinic in Topeka, Kansas because it had an event which unnerved him completely. His aged grandmother that they brought home from the hospital and had a full round the clock nurse in his own home to keep an eye on her, she was up in her eighties and had an advanced cancer. And he said it was hard to stay in the room with her because it smelled so bad because of the rotting and putrefaction and so on and she was barely hanging onto life and a group of Christian Scientists came in and they set up a prayer circle around her. And he said I detested it. I was just so appalled at the mumbo-jumbo twenty-four hours a day. They did this for three weeks and at the end of three weeks, night and day they’d been coming in shifts, at the end of the three week period his nurse, the nurse involved, had come in and awakened him early in the morning and said come quick. And of course he thought she had died. Well that night he had decided she couldn’t possibly live any longer anyway so he went in and she was “dancing” a jig in the middle of the room and she threw back her robe and showed him that her body was covered with scar tissue. He said, covered with scar tissue and he took her down and they checked and not a sign of the cancer, covered with scar tissue though which made it kind of interesting and the fact that three weeks and this had happened. And all these other three week sequences that running across.
So when I was told that Patty couldn’t live more than three or four more weeks and she begged me to take her out of the hospital, this the university of California Hospital in San Francisco, and I picked her up and carried her out with all these people screaming. They were terribly angry at me. They’d grown very fond of Patty. They were keeping her comfortable with sedations. She wanted to go home where she could be with her infant who was just going on a year old by that time.
So I carried her home and set up a three week period at her bedside during which I fasted. I ate twice because at the end of every seven day period I would develop a blinding headache and couldn’t function anymore, but during that time I cooked meals for my children, got them off to school, and didn’t leave Patty’s side at all. I never put on pajamas or anything because that would keep me, and I didn’t sleep for those three weeks. I was finally hallucinating pretty heavily and part of my body was sleeping but part of it was always awake and I did nothing but tell her healing stories. I read her all the healing episodes from the New Testament from the Unity School of Christianity in Lees Point, Missouri, from all of the new thought school activity going on and I kept saying to her over thing you’ve ever heard was a lie, etc., etc., everything is going to be alright.
She was seriously anti-Christian and Anti-Jesus because of something that happened in very early childhood and she felt that her family’s church had seriously betrayed her and her mother and she wouldn’t have anything to do with anything spiritual or religious and really was firm about it and I was reading her all this stuff. Every time she went to sleep I’d pull out the healing stories from the New Testament or other religious material like from Unity School. When she’d wake back up I’d switch over to other types that were non-religious sounding. And also I was reading her several times through the firth manuscript of my book “Crack.”
At the end of three weeks I had to go to the store and buy some stuff. I’d forgotten the three weeks business. I was going to fast for three weeks and I had to break it twice but nevertheless I’d gone 21 days with only two meals and I had to go the store. I told Patty, I’ll be back, I said I won’t be gone more than 45 minutes, we’d be right back. I left and came back 45 minute later with the groceries, put them in the kitchen and came in and she was literally dancing the jig in the middle of the floor and she said, look. The interesting thing there was the huge purple growth that had started from the original incision, a purple growth that had covered it, the medics were puzzled about this purple growth, and it came with this particular kind of cancer she had which was rare and always fatal but they hadn’t seen it manifest in this purple growth. And the purple growth she said watch it and the purple growth disappeared back to the original point of the incision.
We had a remarkable year after that but all sorts of other things happened with the medics throwing monkey wrenches in here. So the issue was that then when she actually dying a year later she went into an extraordinary exalted state of excitement and had Jesus sitting on the edge of the bed and the light was turned to, golden light was flooding in and that went on for hours and hours. She kept grabbing my hand and saying come on we’re going into this golden light, etc., wow, wow. I kept saying that’s here to heal you and so on. So the issue of all that, I say we’ve bought into a field and the field did what it was suppose to do the first time. The second time when we had this relapse because of some very clear cut things that should never have happened, I tried the same thing, couldn’t make it work the second time. So then the second time she by that time had, she was constantly telling me about the stories of healing and telling me about what it’s all really about and quoting Jesus up one side and down the other. So she’d had this complete metanoia and turn around. So when she actually was leaving this world it was just an extraordinary experience. All I’m saying is this is functioning as a field effect and yet, to my way of thinking, it’s indicative of the overall larger field which Susan Segal calls a “vastness” the absolutely other and unknown which expresses itself through all of these ways and which we can tap into. We do it through exactly the stages that Marghanita Laski spoke of as bringing about the Eureka experience. So the first grade healing was simply the equivalent of a Eureka like William Hamilton had giving us the quaternion theory in mathematics and with the theory of chemistry and Gordon Ghoul and the theory of laser and so forth. All of these radically new experiences through the human that had never happened in human history before, and Susan Segal falling into that absolutely other, spoke of it as the vastness and said the vastness doesn’t know anything is wrong.
